The Family Site today is a history lesson of sorts. I am sure that almost everyone has heard about the Hatfield-McCoy feud. It has been romanticized in song, on the silver screen and on television. But have you ever wondered what the true facts about this incident were.
I found the answer a few days ago. It is called the Matewan Historic District, located in southwest West Virginia. Here you will learn not only the true facts about this feud, but also see the areas it took place in, look at a map of the location, and access other sites as well. But there is more to this area than just a feud. There is also a rich history regarding the labor movement and miners, which resulted in the dedication of this historic district on May 19, 1997, marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Matewan.
